The Phage Blog is expanding, and we’re looking for motivated interns who are passionate about science, communication, creativity, and global impact. These internships are fully remote and designed to support early-career scientists, students, and creatives seeking hands-on experience.

1. Social Media Intern
Role Summary:
The Social Media Intern will help grow The Phage Blog’s presence across platforms such as X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys creating engaging science content and building online communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and schedule weekly posts across all platforms
- Create short educational posts about phages, microbiology, and virology
- Monitor audience engagement and respond to comments/messages
- Assist in promoting new articles, webinars, and training programmes
- Suggest new strategies to improve visibility and engagement
Skills Needed:
- Basic understanding of social media trends
- Interest in science communication
- Creativity and good writing skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
2. Graphic Design Intern
Role Summary:
The Graphic Design Intern will create visually appealing graphics that communicate scientific ideas in an accessible way. This role is ideal for someone skilled in visual communication and seeking a portfolio-building opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design social media graphics, infographics, posters, and banners
- Develop illustrations for phage-related concepts
- Support the visual branding of The Phage Blog
- Create templates for regular posts (e.g., “Phage Fact Friday”)
- Collaborate with writers and social media interns to pair visuals with content
Skills Needed:
- Experience with any graphic tool (Canva, Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, etc.)
- Understanding of visual hierarchy, colour, and typography
- Creativity and attention to detail
- Ability to present scientific topics visually
3. Content Writer Intern
Role Summary:
The Content Writer Intern will produce clear, engaging articles and blog posts on bacteriophages, microbiomes, virology, and bioinformatics. This role is perfect for anyone who loves writing and explaining science.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write blog posts, news summaries, and short explainers
- Interview scientists and summarise their research
- Assist with editing and proofreading team submissions
- Generate ideas for new stories, features, and educational posts
- Work with graphic and social media interns to publish final pieces
Skills Needed:
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Ability to explain complex science in simple language
- Basic understanding of microbiology/virology (a plus, not required)
- Willingness to research and learn
