A specialized Microbiology workshop will be hosted at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in collaboration with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Science Learning Collaboratory. This hands-on workshop is designed to support the newest cohort of SEA-PHAGES institutions, including newly participating schools and faculty members who have joined previously but have not yet received formal training.
The primary objective is to provide comprehensive training in:
- 1. Phage isolation techniques
- 2. Phage purification and characterization methods
- 3. Experimental design and microbiological workflows
- 4. Course implementation strategies
Participants will gain practical experience in laboratory methodologies central to phage research while strengthening their understanding of the SEA-PHAGES curriculum framework.
Being part of the SEA-PHAGES network offers unique benefits such as strong inter-institutional collaboration, along with technical and pedagogical support from experienced cohorts, access to an extensive national research community and enhanced student engagement.
