In a significant step toward bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world applications, Swastha Phage Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a healthcare and life sciences innovation company, has announced its Internship Program in Phage Biology & Therapeutics.
With antimicrobial resistance (AMR) emerging as a critical global health threat, this program is designed to equip students, researchers, and life science professionals with practical expertise in bacteriophage research and its therapeutic applications.
The internship focuses on hands-on laboratory training, enabling participants to gain real-world experience in phage biology, antimicrobial resistance solutions, and translational microbiology. The program also supports contract research projects, summer/winter training, and UG/PG project guidance. The internship is structured into four comprehensive modules:
Module 1: Phage Isolation & Characterization
Participants will learn environmental sampling, phage enrichment techniques, plaque assays, phage morphology analysis, and host range determination, along with preservation and growth curve studies.
Module 2: Phage Molecular Biology
This module covers DNA extraction, PCR amplification, agarose gel electrophoresis, primer design basics, restriction digestion analysis, and an introduction to phage genomics and endolysin gene screening.
Module 3: Phage Applications in AMR
Learners will explore phage antibacterial activity assays, biofilm inhibition concepts, time-kill kinetics, stability analysis, and phage-antibiotic synergy testing, which are key tools in developing therapeutic phages.
Module 4: Phage Bioinformatics & Computational Biology (Online)
The final module introduces genome and protein sequence analysis, ORF prediction, annotation basics, phylogenetic analysis, protein structure prediction, molecular docking, and in-silico screening for phage therapeutics.
Who Can Apply?
The program is open to:
- Life Science UG/PG students
- Research scholars
- Individuals interested in phage biology and AMR research
- Duration: 2 weeks per module
- Mode: Hands-on (Offline) + Online (for bioinformatics module)
